Voluntary Licence or Lifetime Identification?

You may have received a notice recently from the City of Windsor about renewing your dog license.  But if you didn’t read it carefully, you may have missed an update – beginning in 2026 dog licenses are voluntary for most dogs.  Licenses are still mandatory for dogs who have “bitten or attacked a person or animal” and those licenses are $150.

While it’s true that buying your voluntary license gets you a $20 voucher redeemable at Ren’s Pets, we have a suggestion for how to spend the $25 you will save by skipping a voluntary dog license.  A suggestion that will protect and identify your pet for life – get them microchipped!

A microchip is a tiny, permanent identification device about the size of a grain of rice that is implanted just under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.  When scanned with a microchip reader, a unique number will be displayed that can connect to the owner’s information.  Community Veterinary Clinic offers microchipping on a walk-in basis daily (Monday through Thursday) between 2-4pm for only $25!

And hey, if you want a tag that will link to your current info, our friends at Docupet are offering you one for FREE!  Visit https://www.docupet.com to register your pet and request your free tag today!
